Probiotics and Your Skin Health

While many of us are pretty familiar with the role probiotics play with our gut health in terms of digestion, but did you know that probiotics can also
contribute significantly to immunity, generally well-being and skin health?

Probioitics is defined as a “dietary supplement containing live bacteria that replaces or adds to the beneficial bacteria normally present in the gastrointestinal
tract,” and it seems these can help dramatically with skin disorders. The role that probiotics play in skin health includes reconstructing atopic dermatitis
(special type of allergic hypersensitivity that is associated with asthma, inhalant allergies (hay fever), encouraging the healing and regeneration
of scars and burns, revitalising skin and fortifying the skin’s immunity. For acne sufferers, probiotics can do wonders for not only rectifying their
gut flora but consequently improving their acne. Eczema, psoriasis and rosacea sufferers have also shown to benefit from probiotics.

If these skin conditions can be improved by probiotics then it is reasonable to assume they may just be beneficial for ageing skin too. In fact researchers
have found some very positive results in their findings. These include:

  • Wrinkle Reduction
  • Hydration
  • Sun Damage/Protection

These findings are really interesting and are definitely food for thought. For some of us it could just be the missing piece to the puzzle we have been
looking for in regards to our skin health.
