There are 5 skin types that are globally recognised; normal, oily, combination, dry and sensitive. Learn about each skin type, what they are defined by and how to best take care of your skin. Mismo has developed products to help keep everyones skin looking and feeling it’s best, no matter what your skin type may be.
Normal skin is characterised by a healthy oil/water balance, normal sized follicles and is usually free from blemishes. It can change slightly due to conditions, and become slightly dryer or slightly more oily, but is generally balanced. The goal with normal skin is to maintain the balance, and keep it healthy. Establishing a daily and regular routine of cleansing, exfoliating, moisturising and treating will help ensure that you have beautiful, balanced skin well into the future.
Excess sebum/oil production is the main cause of Oily skin. Usually, the follicle and pore size tends to be larger and contain more oil. Oily skin is more prone to blemishes due to pores being clogged with oil and dead skin cells which build up , and if not removed can cause pustules, blackheads and other blemishes. Due to this, oily skin requires more cleansing and exfoliating. Be sure not to over do it though, as over drying the skin will cause the body to try and produce even more oil to restore balance. Mismo has developed a range of products perfect for people with oily skin to help restore balance and treat blemishes that may arise.
Combination skin is characterised by being both oily and dry at the same time. People with combination skin will have an excess of oil through their T zone, whilst having dry, and even flaking skin in the outer areas of their face. Requiring more care than normal skin, combination skin must be balanced by treating each area separately. Keeping the skin clean and clear by deep cleansing and regular exfoliation is essential, and will help keep blemishes at bay.
Dry skin is characterised by the lack of oil production and small follicles and pores. Natural oil (lipid) secretions help protect our skin from everyday, environmental damage and slows the signs of ageing. Dry skin needs extra care and treatment to compensate for this lack of natural protection. Products and treatments that stimulate oil production, and add oil to the skin is essential for restoring balance. Dry skin is also different from dehydration, which is a lack of water in the skin.
More recently recognised as a skin type, Sensitive skin has become increasingly common, and is characterised by redness and is easily irritated by products, as well as heat and sun exposure. Sensitive skin must be treated gently and with products specifically designed for use by this skin type. The goal of treatment is usually to calm and sooth the skin, and to prevent further irritation. Mismo’s entire product range has been developed for use with sensitive skin, with many products designed to help the challenges of having sensitive skin.
