Hayfever relief with MSM

Hayfever relief using MSM

Hay-fever can be an inconvenient torment for so many people. Often pharmacy medication only offers mild relief. The great news is that MSM just might be able to assist with the management of hay-fever and other allergies.

MSM for allergies

MSM is a naturally occurring organic sulfur and is found in all living tissue, animals and plants. If you ate only raw food you would get more of it in your diet, but it is very difficult to get the amount you may need for healing health problems that a supplement can easily provide.  The process of cooking food destroys much of the natural sulfur they contain. It is one of the natural remedies for allergies that is now becoming more widely used.

Dr Earl Mindell

Dr Earl Mindell, author of Earl Mindell’s Vitamin Bible says “If your body is sulphur deficient, cell walls become stiff, hindering the flow of fluid through the cell walls. MSM softens the cell walls, allowing allergens, foreign proteins and any free radicals to be moved out of your system.”
Dr Mindell suggests that allergy sufferers take 6,000mg of MSM per day for three weeks (two teaspoons), and then drop to a 3,000mg daily rate. “I also recommend that they drink more water and increase their intake of vitamin C to lower histamine levels.”

The science

Laboratory studies have found that MSM has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Sulphur, which is a major component of MSM, plays an important role in the production of immunoglobulins, which help your immune system. Immunoglobulins are glycoprotein molecules produced by white blood cells. Also known as antibodies they act as a critical part of the immune response. By recognising and binding to particular antigens, such as bacteria or viruses, they aid their destruction.*

By making sure the immunoglobulin is produced at their proper levels, MSM is able to keep immune systems robust and help to normalise them, which in turn helps to better assist the body’s ability to fight off nasty viruses and reduce the effects of allergies.
