MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE FOR RELAXATION
Magnesium offers many health benefits for a range of health conditions including muscle pain, help with sleeplessness, headaches and cramps. However, in addition to these well known qualities, another major benefit this wonderful mineral has to offer is relaxation.
Not only does Magnesium possess powerful relaxation properties for relieving any muscle tension in your body but it can also significantly benefit the nervous system too, helping you to relax. In fact, researches have been known to refer to Magnesium as, “the anti-stress mineral.”
Responsible for over 325 different biochemical processes in the body, it is safe to say that Magnesium plays an integral role to our health and well-being and is worth considering if you are feeling in a constant state of stress.
There are many ways you can incorporate Magnesium into your life and these include taking it orally or using it transdermally (on your body). MiSMo encourages a transdermal approach because Magnesium Chloride is absorbed by the body very easily, bypassing the digestive system, so side effects like diarrhea that are often associated with many of the oral forms are avoided.
There are many different forms of Magnesium so when looking for a magnesium to apply topically always use Magnesium Chloride. Also check the purity of the Magnesium as this does vary.
WAYS TO DE-STRESS WITH MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE
If you’re looking for ways to use Magnesium Chloride to help de-stress, try one of the options below;
• A Magnesium bath. Just add 1/4 cup of Magnesium Chloride Powder to a warm bath and enjoy the calming benefits this wonderful mineral has to offer. As an added bonus you will also find you’ll sleep very soundly.
• Foot soak. Simply add 1/4 cup of Magnesium Chloride Powder to warm water in a foot spa or bucket of water and soak your feet for 20-25mins. This will allow the Magnesium to absorb into your body.
• Make your own Magnesium Oil. Mix 50 grams of Magnesium Powder to 50mls warm drinkable distilled water and add to a spray bottle for ease of use. Spray on your body (legs, feet, arms, tummy and back) Inner thighs, inner arms and under arms are great locations for absorption too. Keep in mind this will be a very strong 50% mix and most magnesium oils on the market contain around 30% magnesium chloride so you can experiment with this mix.
1g of Magnesium Chloride Powder contains 120mg of elemental magnesium. There are 1,000mg in 1g. The daily recommended dosage of elemental magnesium is approximately 400mg but magnesium deficient people need more.
Magnesium Chloride used topically (applying to the skin) is also super effective because it penetrates the skin very quickly, within minutes. This is why you will gain relief from pain fast.
Been out gardening, a weekend warrior, gym workout or a long bike ride – a Magnesium Chloride powder bath and Magnesium Gel Forte will melt away your aches and pains – Super Fast!

Winter is already showing itself in many parts of Australia so now is the time to prepare your skin. Here are a few tips to avoid that awful dry, stingy
feeling that cold weather brings:
Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. Often we don’t remember water in winter as thirst is not as strong in
cold weather as on those hot summer days but your body still needs water, if not as much. If you are a coffee or alcohol drinker, your need for
increasing water intake is higher at any time of year. Both beverages dehydrate the body so for every glass or cup of coffee or alcohol add 1 glass
SET UP A BARRIER:
Your face will need some extra TLC (tender loving care) for the next few months so prepare your bathroom cupboard. Extra oil on your skin will be very
important. The answer there is easy – ACE Vitamin C Serum. This light but super nourishing serum will literally feed your complexion. While we recommend evening use in warmer weather, morning and evening will be more effective in winter.
Your skin needs a barrier to protect it not only from the elements but from heating/air conditioning which is so drying on the complexion. Going from
a warm office, home or car then outside is giving you face a shock every time hence the need for a barrier. Your body is protected with clothing
but not your face and hands – aah don’t forget your hands. ACE LOVES hands. Youthful hands show off rings so well. Lips soften applying ACE twice
a day too.
While Sacha was in Japan in February skiing, her friends all ended up with their faces so dry they were cracking. ACE serum and Nourishing Cream were
saviours for Sacha who did not have any problem with her face. Of course Sacha’s supplies dwindled substantially! Anti Wrinkle Cream is a great
team mate of ACE Serum which contains Vitamins A, C and E as well as hyaluronic acid. I love to use Nourishing Cream on my arms and the value is excellent, especially the large 250ml size.
Exfoliation is a must during winter. As the skin tends to dry, more dead skin cells will form and need to be removed. Think
about your legs and that lovely flaky look you often discover toward the end of winter – and legs are usually covered. This is happening to your
delicate face and neck so once or twice a week depending on your skin type exfoliate with Microderm Resurfacing cream. Your face will then drink
in those beautiful oils and active ingredients you apply afterwards.
MOISTURISE LEGS AND ARMS:
Much winter clothing has a component of polyester which tends to dry the skin so you may find your legs
and arms are looking dry and scaly. We tend not to think about exfoliating these parts of the body but you will see the benefit for the short time
it takes in the shower. Remember to apply a quality natural body lotion to keep skin soft and supple after. Unfortunately MiSMo does not have a
body lotion as such, but I apply Magnesium Gel and get a double bonus.

Three words, MSM Hair Treatment!
MSM is a source of organic Sulphur that can help to relieve many different health conditions (arthritis, allergies, Carpel tunnel are just some of these) and is also great to take daily to improve general well-being and increase energy.
It turns out among many of the fantastic benefits MSM has to offer helping repair and support hair is one of these.
To get a little technical MSM is needed for the synthesis of Collagen and is prevalent in Keratin, a tough protein substance needed for the health and maintenance of hair. In a nutshell, hair is made up of keratin, which is produced in the follicles in the outer layer of skin. As follicles produce new hair cells, old cells are being pushed out through the surface of the skin.
There has been research to show that MSM has helped with hair growth together with great results found when used on hair that has become dry and brittle from too many chemical hair treatments.
To receive the benefits MSM has to offer your hair there are two options. Take a daily dose internally (an average dose is one teaspoon) in a glass of water (warm water will help to dissolve the crystals quicker) which is what the research suggests for hair growth. Alternatively, in terms of chemically treated hair you can make a leave in hair treatment. You could essentially do both and receive benefits internally and topically also.
To make your own leave-in hair treatment simply mix 4 teaspoons of MSM into 250ml pure distilled water in a spray bottle and spritz onto the affected area daily. Hair should feel softer and stronger quickly.
MiSMo MSM is available in 440g and 850g quantities in both MSM Powder (Crystalised) and Distilled MSM. You can use this to make your own hair treatment and also take a daily dose yourself. As mentioned above MSM has many health benefits for a range of health conditions so it is a great supplement to start including into your routine if not just for the fantastic general health and well-being properties.
Some further information regarding MSM you may be interested in – Hot sulphur springs have been used for therapeutic purposes for centuries. The odour comes from the sulphur. Sulphur has been known as the beauty mineral of the body and it is the fourth most abundant mineral in the body. MSM has provedto be a great skin softener which helps prevent cross-linking of skin, a cause of wrinkles, lines and scarring.
Daily Face Wash has always been a very effective cleanser, but we believe it’s now even better thanks to the addition of Salicylic Acid.
Salicylic Acid in case you don’t already know is one of acne’s greatest enemies! Salicylic Acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid whose job is largely to help loosen and dissolve dead skin cells, which if not cleared leads to blackheads and pimples. It penetrates down into the pores which means a deeper cleanse and much better outcomes in terms of reducing acne.
Daily Face Wash is now an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid)/BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) cleanser that includes Glycolic (from sugar cane) and Salicylic Acids (from the Willow Bark Tree). This product is your best chance at helping to control and minimise outbreaks and if used in conjunction with Blemish Gel, the results are even better!
Daily Face Wash is also an ideal cleanser for Rosacea sufferers. Why? Because Rosacea skin types commonly have a build up of dead skin cells which cause blemishes. Using this cleanser regularly is a great way to help prevent these lumps, bumps and blemishes from developing.
Mary is a Rosacea sufferer herself. This is what she had to say about the new formulation:
“I have been trialing the new formulation of Daily face wash for a few months and just love it. As a person with Rosacea and the pimples that often go with the problem I found the gel very effective and gentle. Yay to the new version.”
The key to getting the most out of this cleanser is to leave it on your face for one minute. This gives the AHA’s and BHA’s enough time to do their job with loosening dead skin cells effectively. Tip – An easy way to get your minute in is to cleanse your face first when in the shower then while you wait clean the rest of your body. That generally takes around one minute, then you can rinse your face thoroughly.

We speak to many customers weekly who are dealing with pain. Ruth was one of these customers, who recently underwent hip replacement surgery. When we spoke to Ruth we suggested she would get the most pain relief benefits by using Cell Soother followed by Magnesium Gel Forte with MSM and this was her result;
“I have recently had a total hip replacement and yes, it is painful! I asked my partner to massage some of this wonderful gel onto the op site and it gave me a lot of relief, there was no congestion from damaged soft tissue which meant no swelling and less pain. I have also used the Cell Soother prior to applying the Mag Forte Gel and that does enhance the effects again.
I can’t recommend these products enough! Awesome!”
Another customer sprained her ankle while overseas and suffered a great deal of swelling and pain. After applying Cell Soother then Magnesium Gel Forte with MSM the pain was gone within the hour and she was able to continue to enjoy her holiday.
If you’re looking for some extra pain relief benefits then MSM Relief Packs can help with this.
We all know the saying about ageing gracefully. But what if some of us don’t want to age? Maybe we want to have some control over how quickly we age and can relate more to former Friends star Courtney Cox’s saying “Ageing gracefully is one thing, but trying to slow it down is another.”
We are able to slow down the process if we are proactive and put into place a few simple rules to follow. These include:
Sticking To A Daily Skincare Routine
This means cleansing every morning and evening, moisturising and using a treatment serum at both times. In MiSMo terms this means Rejuvenating Gel morning and night and A-C-E Vitamin C Serum of an evening. Incorporating a weekly exfoliation and mask will also help with additional plumping, hydration and extra anti-aging benefits.
An anti-ageing routine could like a little like this:
1. Natural Face Cleanser morning and night with a Microfibre Face Cloth before cleansing at night
2. Natural Face Exfoliator or Microderm Resurfacing Cream once a week
3. Rejuvenating Gel morning and night
4. ACE Vitamin C Serum night
5. Anti-Wrinkle Cream day moisturiser
6. Anti-Wrinkle Cream night after ACE Vitamin C Serum
7. Eye Cream Complex morning and night
Extra Treatment – PHP Treatment mask once a week or Firming Mask for temporary mini
Using Products That Include Proven Anti-Aging Ingredients
Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid are both well and truly scientifically proven to have powerful anti-aging benefits. The latest trends in skincare come and go however, these ingredients continue to prove their superiority and staying power in the anti-aging realm. MiSMo’s anti-aging range includes Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, specialty active Matrixyle Synthe 6, MSM (source of organic sulphur) and Aloe Vera heavily. Visible results in your skin health can be seen very quickly when using all three MiSMo’s Anti-Aging products – Rejuvenating Gel, ACE Vitamin C Serum Anti-Wrinkle Cream, and our Eye Cream Complex.
As one terrific quote goes, “Healthy hydrated cells are the key to ageless skin and a healthy body.” Being mindful of water intake can reduce skin issues like dehydration (which only lead to more fine lines and wrinkles developing). Keeping yourself hydrated and using products that also offer hydration to your skin will ensure ageless skin.
Being Sun Conscious
As we all know the sun is not too friendly when it comes to anti-ageing. Wearing sun protection in the form of a moisturiser that includes a natural sun protection factor like Zinc and mineral makeup which also includes this mineral, will help to protect your skin from any further sun damage. Mineral Makeup is actually very healing and has many skin health benefits too, so you can enjoy both healing and protecting properties if you chose to wear Mineral Makeup.
Pimples and acne are difficult to contend with on a daily basis. Not only just from a product standpoint but in severe cases, self-confidence among other things can also be affected.
When dealing with these skin issues there are a couple of ways to go about it and in most cases just like our belief when dealing with pain, the best way is to tackle it both internally and topically.
In regards to internally, there are certain supplements that you can consider to help strengthen the immune system and can assist with a healthy and smooth complexion. These include Vitamin C, Zinc, and Essential Fatty Acid supplements.
There has also been very strong research that demonstrates the connection between good gut health and skin health. For example, “ A recent study (from 2010) showed clinical improvement of acne symptoms over a twelve-week period when the patients consumed Lactobacillus-fermented milk.”*
There is a great deal more of this type of research to indicate that a regular dose of a good quality probiotic can help to improve acne. In addition, you can also get your daily dose of probiotics from certain food sources too like Kimchi and pickled/fermented food e.g sauerkraut, so it is worth exploring these options further if you’re interested.
So let’s get to using products topically on your face. It’s important to use products that won’t strip your natural oils, as this will only make things worse and not better. Lack of moisture is often found in problem skin so it’s essential you use products that help to keep skin hydrated also. Keeping bacteria at bay and reducing inflammation are also very necessary in these particular skin conditions.
MiSMo has some very targeted and effective products to help combat and control acne naturally.
Daily Face Wash, Blemish Gel , New Age Moisturiser with Sunscreen and Boost Oil Free Moisturiser are all part of MiSMo’s anti-acne range. Each serves a unique purpose in helping to get pimples and acne under control.
Daily Face Wash includes Glycolic and Salycilic Acids also known as AHA’s/BHA’s that work together to effectively clear pimples and skin blockages as well as exfoliating dead skin cells.
Glycolic Acid is an AHA or Alpha Hydroxy Acid while Salicylic Acid is a BHA or Beta Hydroxy Acid. Specifically, the job of both acids are to loosen the glue that holds dead skin cells on the skin. Loosening and dissolving the skin cells is exactly what you want went dealing with pimples as it also helps to clear oil that has clogged pores which inevitably leads to blemishes.
Blemish Gel is an innovative and unique natural acne treatment. This product includes Vitamins A, B3 and 5 all of which are well known for their effectiveness when it comes to acne. In addition to this, Blemish Gel also includes an ingredient called ac.net. This fantastic botanically derived ingredient has proven anti-acne benefits that include controlling excess oil, inflammation, and most importantly bacteria. You can use this as a moisturiser all over the face or just on the affected areas.
Boost Oil Free Moisturiser is as the name suggests an oil-free moisturiser. It is super light, however, still offers effective hydration to the skin and will also work to soothe and calm any irritations.
New Age Moisturiser with Sunscreen works well if your skin is in the normal range, not oily. This light cream will provide hydration as well as sun protection and the zinc is also calming and healing for pimples.
A suggested MiSMo skincare routine to help combat pimples could look like this –:
- Cleanse with Daily Face Wash Morning and Night
- Use Blemish Gel on pimples or can also be used as a moisturiser – use morning and night
- Boost Oil-free Moisturiser – if you’re wanting to use a moisturiser then apply Boost morning and night also
- Alternative to BOOST – New Age with Sunscreen – use after Blemish Gel
- Exfoliating regularly can also help
Although if you’re wanting a routine tailored uniquely for yourself then please contact MiSMo to speak with one of our resident beauty therapists. They are always on hand to help with any product recommendations and can help you to make informed choices about what products will work best for you.

There are many vitamins that are used in skincare preparations to help improve skin’s health, one in particular that plays a very important role is Vitamin A.
So what does Vitamin A help with exactly?
Restoring Sun Damaged Skin Back To Health
A lack of Vitamin A in the skin leads to skin looking aged and tired. By regularly (I mean daily) replenishing our skin with Vitamin A, will help to lessen the effects of issues like sun damage, pigmentation and essentially ageing.
Improves The Skin Barrier
Vitamin A, also known as Vitamin A Palmitate or Retinyl Palmiate, helps with cell growth and production. It’s basically what helps keep skin firm. If there is a lack of Vitamin A this can lead to weakened skin tissue that may result in lack lustre skin that can become dry.
This ingredient is a remarkable skin rejuvenator. It helps to thicken skin tissue, something that is very beneficial for any ageing skin. Vitamin A is an all-round savior for skin health and can help to make skin look radiant and healthy.
If you’re looking to start incorporating this wonderful Vitamin into your daily skincare then choose from MiSMo’s ACE Vitamin C Serum (a treatment serum every person should have! This serum combines Vitamin A with C & E in the correct proportions to produce a highly effective and potent anti-aging serum); New Age Moisturiser and New Age Moisturiser with Sunscreen.
New Age Moisturiser with Sunscreen in particular is a great choice, given it also includes a natural sun protection factor which is integral in helping prevent any further Vitamin A deficiency. (Vitamin A deficiency is a result of too much sun exposure).
New Age Moisturiser contains the highest amount of MSM (Source of Organic Sulphur) while also including Vitamin A, Aloe Vera and Hyluronic Acid plus many more, which makes this moisturiser extremely beneficial to your skin’s health.
If it’s health and well-being you are wanting for 2018 then why not consider the nutritional supplement, MSM? MSM is a source of organic sulphur, one of the principal elements found in the body, absolutely essential for man, animals, plants and mico-organisms.
“Sulfur is the eighth most abundant element in all living organisms. In our bodies, it forms part of virtually all tissue, especially those highest in protein, such as red blood cells, muscles, skin and hair,” explains Dr Stanley Jacobs in the book, The Miracle of MSM.
Unfortunately, as we age our MSM levels decline, and so by supplementing with MiSMo MSM we are able to provide the body’s requirement for MSM in a bio available form. MiSMo MSM is an excellent form of health insurance and worth a try if it’s health and well-being you are wanting for 2018.
As an added bonus, you may also enjoy increased energy, less pain from arthritis and smoother skin, just to list a few which brings me to our next point, great skin!
If it is your skin’s health you are wanting to fortify this year then having a regular skincare routine and sticking to it, is the best chance you can give your skin at looking its best.
Making sure you exfoliate regularly is also a great one to remember. There is no point trying to use beautiful treatment serums like Rejuvenating Gel or ACE Vitamin C Serum if they are unable to penetrate through the dead skin cells.
Keeping your skin clear and free of dead skin cells will allow these products to deliver the much needed nutrients. Interestingly, exfoliation plays a big role in the skin condition Rosacea, a rarely discussed aspect of this condition. You can read more about this in another post, Rosacea and The Role Of Exfoliation
Getting into the habit of treating your skin to a weekly mask can also help to keep your skin fresh and radiant looking.
Whatever it might be you are wanting for 2018 we hope that it will be a year filled with health and happiness and a motto of “don’t sweat the small stuff” because it really is only small stuff!”
Healthy skin is something we all want for our skin. Sometimes life gets a little too busy and we get sidetracked and distracted from our usual routine, often putting ourselves last on the list. Being aware of this and making sure you take some time to give your skin the attention it deserves will not only make you feel better, but your skin too!
Here are a few very simple steps to follow to ensure you keep your skin’s health in check.
Making sure you are drinking enough water and being mindful of not drinking too much as well is important. There are recommendations regarding how much a male and a female should drink a day however, these do not take into consideration factors like size, weight, how much physical activity and climate we live in.
“There are references that adult men should drink 2.6 litres of water per day (about 10 cups) and adult women should drink 2.1 litres per day (about eight cups). But these figures are based on the average weight of men and women, so if you’re underweight or overweight you may consider adjusting your fluid intake — Ms Taylor says a good rule of thumbis 35 millilitres of fluid per kilogram of bodyweight.”
Fluids like herbal teas, juice and coffee are also considered as part of your hydration. Interestingly, for those of you who were lead to believe coffee is dehydrating then it might be time to reconsider this. The Mayo Clinic suggests otherwise, “Drinking caffeine-containing beverages as part of a normal lifestyle doesn’t cause fluid loss in excess of the volume ingested. While caffeinated drinks may have a mild diuretic effect — meaning that they may cause the need to urinate — they don’t appear to increase the risk of dehydration.”
The mineral Sulphur has been called nature’s beauty mineral” because it is needed to keep hair glossy and skin clear and smooth. Sulphur is needed
for the synthesis of collagen and is prevalent in keratin necessary for the healthy maintenance of hair, skin and nails. MSM provides the necessary Sulphur supplementation to help maintain collagen and keratin levels.
Essential Fatty Acids like Evening Primrose Oil can help to fortify your skin health and in particular, help with age related changes like firmness
and redness. They are also helpful for problematic skin conditions like rosacea. Vitamin C is also another great supplement to take and a two pronged
approach is ideal if possible (taking it internally and using it topically), which leads to our next point below.
FEED YOUR SKIN WITH INGREDIENTS LIKE VITAMIN C AND HYALURONIC ACID
Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid are both ingredients that are well documented to have strong anti-aging properties. They also work wonderfully as a preventative from ageing.
Using serums with these ingredients included on a regular basis can help to make some big skin health changes. Vitamin C helps to prevent and protect against sun damage, increase firmness, elasticity and tone of skin while also increasing moisture in all levels of your skin. MiSMo’s ACE Vitamin C Serum would be perfect.
Hyaluronic Acid is essential for the structure of the skin matrix known as the extracellular. This is what gives the skin a youthful wrinkle free appearance and it is the combination of hyaluronic acid and collagen that help to maintain this. Feeding your skin with hyaluronic acid, (in the form of MiSMo’s Rejuvenating Gel) will help to plump, soften and smooth the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and overall improve your skin’s appearance and health significantly.
SUN IN MODERATION
The sun is probably our worst enemy when it comes to lines, wrinkles and ageing however, we do need to make sure we get our daily dose of Vitamin D.
Try avoiding the hottest times of the day to get your sun fix which is suggested from between 10-3pm.
Protecting your skin with a mineral makeup or natural sunscreen and or moisturiser containing the likes of Zinc, can help to fortify your skin against UVA and UVB and rays.
REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP!
Ahh, this old chestnut. But very timely considering this time of year. Even if you simply use a microfibre cloth just to remove your makeup before bed is better than falling asleep in your full face of makeup.
In an ideal world, it would be great to follow your usual skincare routine, cleanse, serums and moisturise however, at the very least a microfibre cloth will do the trick.
So what are you waiting for? By following these easy steps you will be on your way to healthy and glowing skin in no time.
