Winter is already showing itself in many parts of Australia so now is the time to prepare your skin. Here are a few tips to avoid that awful dry, stingy
feeling that cold weather brings:
Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. Often we don’t remember water in winter as thirst is not as strong in
cold weather as on those hot summer days but your body still needs water, if not as much. If you are a coffee or alcohol drinker, your need for
increasing water intake is higher at any time of year. Both beverages dehydrate the body so for every glass or cup of coffee or alcohol add 1 glass
SET UP A BARRIER:
Your face will need some extra TLC (tender loving care) for the next few months so prepare your bathroom cupboard. Extra oil on your skin will be very
important. The answer there is easy – ACE Vitamin C Serum. This light but super nourishing serum will literally feed your complexion. While we recommend evening use in warmer weather, morning and evening will be more effective in winter.
Your skin needs a barrier to protect it not only from the elements but from heating/air conditioning which is so drying on the complexion. Going from
a warm office, home or car then outside is giving you face a shock every time hence the need for a barrier. Your body is protected with clothing
but not your face and hands – aah don’t forget your hands. ACE LOVES hands. Youthful hands show off rings so well. Lips soften applying ACE twice
a day too.
While Sacha was in Japan in February skiing, her friends all ended up with their faces so dry they were cracking. ACE serum and Nourishing Cream were
saviours for Sacha who did not have any problem with her face. Of course Sacha’s supplies dwindled substantially! Anti Wrinkle Cream is a great
team mate of ACE Serum which contains Vitamins A, C and E as well as hyaluronic acid. I love to use Nourishing Cream on my arms and the value is excellent, especially the large 250ml size.
Exfoliation is a must during winter. As the skin tends to dry, more dead skin cells will form and need to be removed. Think
about your legs and that lovely flaky look you often discover toward the end of winter – and legs are usually covered. This is happening to your
delicate face and neck so once or twice a week depending on your skin type exfoliate with Microderm Resurfacing cream. Your face will then drink
in those beautiful oils and active ingredients you apply afterwards.
MOISTURISE LEGS AND ARMS:
Much winter clothing has a component of polyester which tends to dry the skin so you may find your legs
and arms are looking dry and scaly. We tend not to think about exfoliating these parts of the body but you will see the benefit for the short time
it takes in the shower. Remember to apply a quality natural body lotion to keep skin soft and supple after. Unfortunately MiSMo does not have a
body lotion as such, but I apply Magnesium Gel and get a double bonus.

NOURISHING CREAM WITH MSM FOR THE SOFTEST SKIN
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of applying a moisturiser that absorbs beautifully into your skin, feels like silk and leaves just a light hint of a fresh aroma to help start your day off on the right foot. That’s exactly what Nourishing Cream with MSM feels like when I use it every morning. Not only does this cream feel amazing but it offers so many wonderful benefits for my skin.
Nourishing Cream contains a very large amount of ingredients high in essential fatty acids. Ingredients like Macadamia and Jojoba Oil. These are the ones that help with repairing the skin barrier, keeping skin smooth and elastic while also ensuring moisture levels are kept in check.
In addition to this, Nourishing Cream also contains MSM, a source of organic Sulphur, Aloe Vera, Shea and Coconut butter. All of these ingredients combine to offer a power pack of benefits like softened skin, cell renewal properties, anti-aging and healing benefits. What more could you ask for in a moisturiser?
Nourishing Cream makes for the perfect day cream for mature type skins and is also ideal for Rosacea sufferers. It’s great as a base under any makeup
especially MiSMo’s mineral makeup.
If you’re wondering if Nourishing Cream is the right choice for you out of all of the moisturisers in the MiSMo range, then ask yourself these questions:
- Are you wanting to increase the moisture levels in your skin?
- Do you have Rosacea, sensitive or dry skin?
- Would you like to calm any redness in your skin?
- Are you wanting to reduce fine lines and wrinkles?
- Are you looking for a natural moisturiser?
If you answer “Yes” to these then it is definitely worth trying Nourishing Cream.
Another consideration to give some thought to is now the temperatures are finally cooling off and Winter is fast approaching it might be time to look at the moisturisers you are currently using and opt for a more hydrating alternative.
Nourishing Cream can most definitely help with this. Even the addition of a treatment serum into your skincare routine to help give your skin that extra moisture boost (along with a number of other fantastic anti-aging benefits too) is also a great option.
Interesting Nourishing Cream Facts

When you talk about Hyaluronic Acid to someone not familiar with this ingredient the acid part conjures up all different types of thoughts and none that relate to beautiful skin!
BUT, it’s not an ingredient to be afraid of at all, in fact, Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in our bodies. It is a carbohydrate that binds to water giving it a stiff viscous quality similar to jelly. This gel is one of the most heavily researched substances who’s function in the body amongst other things is to help lubricate movable parts of the body, such as joints and muscles.
Its consistency and tissue-friendliness allows it to be used in skincare products as an excellent moisturiser. Interestingly, there is roughly 50% of Hyaluronic Acid found in our skin and is something we require in order to maintain our skin’s layers and structure. Hyaluronic Acid works with collagen to produce some pretty wonderful anti-aging skin benefits.
- Improved skin tone
- Keeps our complexions youthful = wrinkle-free
I am thinking right now you might just be wanting to know how you can get your hands on a serum that contains this ingredient and fast!
It just so happens a Hyaluronic Acid serum in MiSMo terms translates to Rejuvenating Gel. Moreover, MiSMo uses only pharmaceutical grade Hyaluronic Acid (which is also plant-derived) and lots of it too. In fact, up to twenty times more than other products, which is why Rejuvenating Gel is so effective. In as little as four days of using this serum, you will see visible results which include plumping and improvement to skin texture.
In addition to Hyaluronic Acid, MiSMo has also added another powerful anti-aging ingredient to the formulation, a peptide known as Matrixyl Synthe 6. This also helps to keep skin wrinkle free while also encouraging the production of collagen and elastin.
Here’s what Nicole had to say about Rejuvenating Gel:-
“Wow! I was given a bottle of Mismo’s Rejuvenating Gel for Xmas and have only been using it for two weeks – but what a difference. At 40 the lines around my eyes are beginning to show. This Gel is wonderful and in only a short time I am starting to see lines reduce. Highly recommend giving these products a go…thank you Mismo!!”
Because our Hyaluronic Acid supplies decline as we get older, a Hyaluronic Acid serum is just what you need to help top up and keep wrinkles and sagging skin at bay. What are you waiting for? Purchase your very own Rejuvenating Gel HERE now.

Interesting Hyaluronic Acid Fact – Hyaluronic Acid is highly concentrated inside the eyeball. The fluid inside the eye called the vitreous humor is composed almost completely of hyaluronic acid. The gel acts as a shock absorber for the eye and also serves to transport nutrients into the eye. It is said that after the 5th decade of life, our eyes stop producing the much needed Hyaluronic Acid resulting in various eye problems such as poor vision, dry eyes and floaters.
I am not sure there are too many people out there who enjoy ageing? Yes it is part of life and yes we would all like to age gracefully, but what if some of us want to have a little more control over just how quickly we age? Do you really like those crow’s feet around your eyes? Well there are a couple of very quick and easy steps you can put into place to help do this.
Stick To A Daily Skincare Routine
This doesn’t have to take up too much time at all. Simply cleanse, followed by a high quality treatment serum that includes ingredients like Vitamin C and/or Hyaluronic Acid and moisturise of a morning and the same of an evening.
Include an exfoliation and a mask once a week if you can and that is a fantastic way to fortify your skin health.
What Can You Expect From these Steps
By using quality serums and cosmeceutical grade skincare from your early 30’s you can stall or prevent the development of fine lines and wrinkles. For older ladies these lines and wrinkles can be softened and sometimes eliminated.
Always Take Your Makeup Off Before Bed
“Sleeping in your makeup can result in unnecessary exposure to the free radicals in the environment, which the makeup holds on to,” explains one Doctor. “Free radicals cause the breakdown of healthy collagen, which results in fine lines on the skin”.
A great one to remember, a microfibre cloth is an easy way to remove your makeup, if you’re looking for a quick option.
This is a really terrific quote – “Healthy hydrated cells are the key to ageless skin and a healthy body.” Being aware of how much water you consume can reduce skin issues like dehydration (which can lead to more wrinkles and fine lines developing). Further to this, using products that also offer hydration to your skin will ensure ageless skin.
If you’re not already following any of these steps and you’re keen to slow down the hands of time then perhaps today is the time to start? Every mature person loves to hear “Gee you look great for your age”. Join the Mismo ladies who hear this regularly.
We all know the saying about ageing gracefully. But what if some of us don’t want to age? Maybe we want to have some control over how quickly we age and can relate more to former Friends star Courtney Cox’s saying “Ageing gracefully is one thing, but trying to slow it down is another.”
We are able to slow down the process if we are proactive and put into place a few simple rules to follow. These include:
Sticking To A Daily Skincare Routine
This means cleansing every morning and evening, moisturising and using a treatment serum at both times. In MiSMo terms this means Rejuvenating Gel morning and night and A-C-E Vitamin C Serum of an evening. Incorporating a weekly exfoliation and mask will also help with additional plumping, hydration and extra anti-aging benefits.
An anti-ageing routine could like a little like this:
1. Natural Face Cleanser morning and night with a Microfibre Face Cloth before cleansing at night
2. Natural Face Exfoliator or Microderm Resurfacing Cream once a week
3. Rejuvenating Gel morning and night
4. ACE Vitamin C Serum night
5. Anti-Wrinkle Cream day moisturiser
6. Anti-Wrinkle Cream night after ACE Vitamin C Serum
7. Eye Cream Complex morning and night
Extra Treatment – PHP Treatment mask once a week or Firming Mask for temporary mini
Using Products That Include Proven Anti-Aging Ingredients
Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid are both well and truly scientifically proven to have powerful anti-aging benefits. The latest trends in skincare come and go however, these ingredients continue to prove their superiority and staying power in the anti-aging realm. MiSMo’s anti-aging range includes Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, specialty active Matrixyle Synthe 6, MSM (source of organic sulphur) and Aloe Vera heavily. Visible results in your skin health can be seen very quickly when using all three MiSMo’s Anti-Aging products – Rejuvenating Gel, ACE Vitamin C Serum Anti-Wrinkle Cream, and our Eye Cream Complex.
As one terrific quote goes, “Healthy hydrated cells are the key to ageless skin and a healthy body.” Being mindful of water intake can reduce skin issues like dehydration (which only lead to more fine lines and wrinkles developing). Keeping yourself hydrated and using products that also offer hydration to your skin will ensure ageless skin.
Being Sun Conscious
As we all know the sun is not too friendly when it comes to anti-ageing. Wearing sun protection in the form of a moisturiser that includes a natural sun protection factor like Zinc and mineral makeup which also includes this mineral, will help to protect your skin from any further sun damage. Mineral Makeup is actually very healing and has many skin health benefits too, so you can enjoy both healing and protecting properties if you chose to wear Mineral Makeup.
There are many vitamins that are used in skincare preparations to help improve skin’s health, one in particular that plays a very important role is Vitamin A.
So what does Vitamin A help with exactly?
Restoring Sun Damaged Skin Back To Health
A lack of Vitamin A in the skin leads to skin looking aged and tired. By regularly (I mean daily) replenishing our skin with Vitamin A, will help to lessen the effects of issues like sun damage, pigmentation and essentially ageing.
Improves The Skin Barrier
Vitamin A, also known as Vitamin A Palmitate or Retinyl Palmiate, helps with cell growth and production. It’s basically what helps keep skin firm. If there is a lack of Vitamin A this can lead to weakened skin tissue that may result in lack lustre skin that can become dry.
This ingredient is a remarkable skin rejuvenator. It helps to thicken skin tissue, something that is very beneficial for any ageing skin. Vitamin A is an all-round savior for skin health and can help to make skin look radiant and healthy.
If you’re looking to start incorporating this wonderful Vitamin into your daily skincare then choose from MiSMo’s ACE Vitamin C Serum (a treatment serum every person should have! This serum combines Vitamin A with C & E in the correct proportions to produce a highly effective and potent anti-aging serum); New Age Moisturiser and New Age Moisturiser with Sunscreen.
New Age Moisturiser with Sunscreen in particular is a great choice, given it also includes a natural sun protection factor which is integral in helping prevent any further Vitamin A deficiency. (Vitamin A deficiency is a result of too much sun exposure).
New Age Moisturiser contains the highest amount of MSM (Source of Organic Sulphur) while also including Vitamin A, Aloe Vera and Hyluronic Acid plus many more, which makes this moisturiser extremely beneficial to your skin’s health.
If it’s health and well-being you are wanting for 2018 then why not consider the nutritional supplement, MSM? MSM is a source of organic sulphur, one of the principal elements found in the body, absolutely essential for man, animals, plants and mico-organisms.
“Sulfur is the eighth most abundant element in all living organisms. In our bodies, it forms part of virtually all tissue, especially those highest in protein, such as red blood cells, muscles, skin and hair,” explains Dr Stanley Jacobs in the book, The Miracle of MSM.
Unfortunately, as we age our MSM levels decline, and so by supplementing with MiSMo MSM we are able to provide the body’s requirement for MSM in a bio available form. MiSMo MSM is an excellent form of health insurance and worth a try if it’s health and well-being you are wanting for 2018.
As an added bonus, you may also enjoy increased energy, less pain from arthritis and smoother skin, just to list a few which brings me to our next point, great skin!
If it is your skin’s health you are wanting to fortify this year then having a regular skincare routine and sticking to it, is the best chance you can give your skin at looking its best.
Making sure you exfoliate regularly is also a great one to remember. There is no point trying to use beautiful treatment serums like Rejuvenating Gel or ACE Vitamin C Serum if they are unable to penetrate through the dead skin cells.
Keeping your skin clear and free of dead skin cells will allow these products to deliver the much needed nutrients. Interestingly, exfoliation plays a big role in the skin condition Rosacea, a rarely discussed aspect of this condition. You can read more about this in another post, Rosacea and The Role Of Exfoliation
Getting into the habit of treating your skin to a weekly mask can also help to keep your skin fresh and radiant looking.
Whatever it might be you are wanting for 2018 we hope that it will be a year filled with health and happiness and a motto of “don’t sweat the small stuff” because it really is only small stuff!”
Healthy skin is something we all want for our skin. Sometimes life gets a little too busy and we get sidetracked and distracted from our usual routine, often putting ourselves last on the list. Being aware of this and making sure you take some time to give your skin the attention it deserves will not only make you feel better, but your skin too!
Here are a few very simple steps to follow to ensure you keep your skin’s health in check.
Making sure you are drinking enough water and being mindful of not drinking too much as well is important. There are recommendations regarding how much a male and a female should drink a day however, these do not take into consideration factors like size, weight, how much physical activity and climate we live in.
“There are references that adult men should drink 2.6 litres of water per day (about 10 cups) and adult women should drink 2.1 litres per day (about eight cups). But these figures are based on the average weight of men and women, so if you’re underweight or overweight you may consider adjusting your fluid intake — Ms Taylor says a good rule of thumbis 35 millilitres of fluid per kilogram of bodyweight.”
Fluids like herbal teas, juice and coffee are also considered as part of your hydration. Interestingly, for those of you who were lead to believe coffee is dehydrating then it might be time to reconsider this. The Mayo Clinic suggests otherwise, “Drinking caffeine-containing beverages as part of a normal lifestyle doesn’t cause fluid loss in excess of the volume ingested. While caffeinated drinks may have a mild diuretic effect — meaning that they may cause the need to urinate — they don’t appear to increase the risk of dehydration.”
The mineral Sulphur has been called nature’s beauty mineral” because it is needed to keep hair glossy and skin clear and smooth. Sulphur is needed
for the synthesis of collagen and is prevalent in keratin necessary for the healthy maintenance of hair, skin and nails. MSM provides the necessary Sulphur supplementation to help maintain collagen and keratin levels.
Essential Fatty Acids like Evening Primrose Oil can help to fortify your skin health and in particular, help with age related changes like firmness
and redness. They are also helpful for problematic skin conditions like rosacea. Vitamin C is also another great supplement to take and a two pronged
approach is ideal if possible (taking it internally and using it topically), which leads to our next point below.
FEED YOUR SKIN WITH INGREDIENTS LIKE VITAMIN C AND HYALURONIC ACID
Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid are both ingredients that are well documented to have strong anti-aging properties. They also work wonderfully as a preventative from ageing.
Using serums with these ingredients included on a regular basis can help to make some big skin health changes. Vitamin C helps to prevent and protect against sun damage, increase firmness, elasticity and tone of skin while also increasing moisture in all levels of your skin. MiSMo’s ACE Vitamin C Serum would be perfect.
Hyaluronic Acid is essential for the structure of the skin matrix known as the extracellular. This is what gives the skin a youthful wrinkle free appearance and it is the combination of hyaluronic acid and collagen that help to maintain this. Feeding your skin with hyaluronic acid, (in the form of MiSMo’s Rejuvenating Gel) will help to plump, soften and smooth the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and overall improve your skin’s appearance and health significantly.
SUN IN MODERATION
The sun is probably our worst enemy when it comes to lines, wrinkles and ageing however, we do need to make sure we get our daily dose of Vitamin D.
Try avoiding the hottest times of the day to get your sun fix which is suggested from between 10-3pm.
Protecting your skin with a mineral makeup or natural sunscreen and or moisturiser containing the likes of Zinc, can help to fortify your skin against UVA and UVB and rays.
REMOVE YOUR MAKEUP!
Ahh, this old chestnut. But very timely considering this time of year. Even if you simply use a microfibre cloth just to remove your makeup before bed is better than falling asleep in your full face of makeup.
In an ideal world, it would be great to follow your usual skincare routine, cleanse, serums and moisturise however, at the very least a microfibre cloth will do the trick.
So what are you waiting for? By following these easy steps you will be on your way to healthy and glowing skin in no time.
Snoring. We’ve all done it at some point in our lives however, if it is happening regularly each night, and causing disruption to other people’s sleep, then it might be worth looking into why it is happening.
Snoring according to Snore Australia, is “when the muscles of the airway relax too much during sleep and vibrate (creating noise) when air we breathe passes in and out. “
They also go onto to suggest common causes of snoring, some of which include;
• Eating too much at night
• Nasal Congestion
• Being overweight
• Sleep position
• Swollen adenoids or tonsils, especially in children
There are quite a few options in regards to treatment for snoring, a great one to consider is visiting a Sleep Physican who specialises in sleep disorders and can make an informed recommendation and suggested treatment.
In addition to this, there are also some lifestyle changes that can also help. Considering a weight loss program if this is a factor may help to decrease snoring as will stopping smoking. Not only does smoking pose big health risks, but “tobacco smoke causes the walls of airways to retain fluid and swell (this is called oedema). This causes the airway to narrow, worsening snoring. Smokers are 4 to 5 times more likely than non-smokers to suffer from snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea,”explains Snore Australia.
Incorporating nasal treatments is also another option. In particular, a nasal spray containing MSM (source of organic sulphur) could assist. In a trial using MSM, sufferers of chronic snoring where given 16% MSM drops in a water solution in each nostril 15 minutes prior to bed. 80% reported reductions in snoring with no side effects whatsoever in 90 days.
If you’re waking up tired and not feeling you’re getting the restful sleep you need then perhaps snoring might be the culprit and a further look into why this might be happening could help you find ways to reduce and prevent it.
Now is the time when the chaotic energy starts to build with the onslaught of the many Christmas parties and get togethers leading up to Christmas day.
Stress begins to heighten as your “to do” list seemingly increases with each waking moment. To help you to try and remain cool, calm and collected
during this busy time we’ve come up with a few ideas.
Take Time Out
As crazy as this sounds in order for you to keep calm, you need to take just a short time out for yourself each day.
Whether it is in the morning when you wake up or just before you go to sleep or really anywhere in between where you can safely close your eyes and
have one minute to yourself. Here’s a suggested breathing routine (from Harvard Health School) for you to try to help calm and centre you, so you are
able to better deal with whatever the day throws at you.
Place your hand just beneath your navel so you can feel the gentle rise and fall of your belly as you breathe. Breathe in. Pause for a count of three.
Breathe out. Pause for a count of three. Continue to breathe deeply for one minute, pausing for a count of three after each inhalation and exhalation.
Try Magnesium or MSM (source of organic Sulphur)
Magnesium is a truly fantastic mineral. Responsible for many vital enzyme reactions
in your body including those impacting the nervous system, Magnesium is one very helpful mineral in times of stress. To help calm any anxieties,
incorporate Magnesium into your daily routine. You may also notice as
an added bonus your sleep may improve too.
Another helpful supplement to consider is MSM. MSM is a source of organic Sulphur that
can help with many of today’s health conditions. Increased energy and improved well-being are just one of these and something that can help to
give you that extra boost you need to make it through this hectic time.
Moderation 80:20 rule
Always a great rule to follow in general although quite a tricky one with so many Christmas get togethers and parties happening during this time.
But if you are able to stick closely to this rule and find some balance, you will find yourself not only feeling much better within yourself (e.g.
lighter and not so stodgy) but your energy levels will not be affected so dramatically. As often time the food choices at these gatherings aren’t
the healthiest options, so by limiting this and keeping an eye on your alcohol intake will make a really big difference to your overall health
If you arm yourself with a few of these tips hopefully you will get through Christmas fairly unscathed and make it through to the other side! The choice
is yours. Good Luck!
