Acne is often thought of being a young people’s problem, but many adults in their 20s, 30s, and beyond continue to suffer from this
frustrating condition. Why is this?
While the jury is still not entirely out on what may be causing your acne, there are some myths out there that must be debunked so that those suffering
from this often embarrassing condition can shift their focus on probable solutions.
Myth #1: Chocolate Doesn’t Cause Acne (But Your Diet Might)
Numerous studies were performed throughout the 60s and the 70s which tried to prove or disprove the link between chocolate and pimples. Their findings:
there is no connection. Chocolate does not cause acne, however the diet that you have today might.
A recent study observed the diets of over 200 people and found that those who consumed these foods were far more likely to have moderate to severe acne:
Those involved in the study also consumed less fish. This has led many researchers to believe that omega 3 fatty acids may have something to do with maintaining
healthy, glowing skin.
Myth #2: Don’t Use Sunscreen
Skipping wearing sunscreen is the worst thing you can do if you want to maintain young and radiant skin. That said, there are two types of sunscreens with
which those with skin sensitivities should familiarise themselves:
Chemical sunscreens contain –you guessed it –chemicals, such as oxybenzone and avobenzone. These two chemicals are known to be skin irritants and can cause
inflammation, thus worsening your acne. Physical sunscreens, on the other hand, contain zinc oxide. Zinc oxide can actually help treat you acne and
kill the bacteria which is causing it. Before you head outside, be sure to put on the right sunscreen!
Myth #3: Do Not Wear Makeup If You Have Acne
Those who have acne do not need to stop wearing makeup. What they should do, however, is be more conscientious about the products they are choosing to
put on their skin. Some more oily and heavier products can clog the pores and cause pimples, but they will not ultimately cause acne.
Here’s some better news: if you choose the right products, makeup can actually help treat you acne. Mineral foundations, for example, contain a number
of ingredients like silica and zinc oxide which are able to absorb oils which would otherwise be clogging up your pores.
When used in conjunction with a proven acne-fighting products containing pure MSM (such as MiSMOs Acne and Oily Skin Trial Pack), your acne can be completely manageable
in a matter of weeks if not days.
