Are You Cleansing Your Face Properly?

Chances are your answer is “Of course I am!”However, right about now you might be starting to second guess yourself. If you are experiencing issues with your skin whether it is blemishes or dryness, there is a possibility it all stems from using the wrong skin cleansing regime.

Night and Day

Excessive washing can dry out the skin, whereas not enough washing can be problematic if you have oily skin. The rule of thumb is once before bed for dry skin and once in the morning and once in the evening for oily skin. As well if you tend to suffer from breakouts an additional washing following a workout or doing something that makes you sweat is a good idea to remove excess oil.

Pore You

If you tend to break out chances are you have large pores. Large pores lead to clogging which in turn leads to breakouts. Although many people think they can shrink their pores, the truth is this is not possible. The best you can do is make an effort to keep skin clean in order to reduce blocked pores by cleansing and exfoliating.

Ingredient not Skin Type

It is not about finding the right cleanser for your skin type, as much as it is about finding the right ingredients. Look for rinse off cleansers to remove residue and avoid cleansers that contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) as this not only dries skin but also leads to flare ups.

You should also read the label to avoid parabens, mineral oils and alcohol. Instead look for natural ingredients such as lactic and glycolic acids for problem skin, bamboo stem and French rice powder for exfoliation and Organic Aloe Vera, MSM, olive and macadamia oils for smooth, clean skin.

The Right Cloth

If you have sensitive skin or, better yet, just don’t have it in you to take off your makeup after a night on the town, using a specialty cleansing cloth such as a MiSMo Face Cloth is a god send. These specialty cloths can make easy work of a face full of makeup including waterproof mascara by gently wiping away residue with nothing more than warm water. You can also use them with your cleanser of choice.

MiSMo Cleansers and the MiSMo Face Cloth are the perfect duo to help improve your face cleansing regime. MiSMo Cleansers

Why do I get pimples?

Monday, November 25, 2013

In the simplest of terms, the cause of pimples is blocked pores.  There are a number of reasons your pores could be blocked:

-          Too much oil on the skin

-          Hormones

-          Dead skin cells sitting on the surface of the skin

-          Makeup clogging pores

-          Bacteria and free radicals

Having too much oil on the skin could be due to hormones or simply if you have an oily or combination skin type.

Your skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells and producing new skin cells which push up to form the new outer layer.  However if you do not cleanse and exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells, they could sit on the surface and block pores.

Heavy or long lasting makeup can potentially clog your pores.  By sitting on the surface of the skin, it can act like film, blocking your pores.  The best prevention is to: wear no foundation at all, wear a lighter foundation or mineral makeup, but most importantly cleanse twice a day to ensure your skin is clean and clear at the end of the day and before applying makeup.

Bacteria and free radicals can also clog your pores to form a pimple.  Bacteria naturally exists on your skin, but there are bad bacteria which can cause inflammation and form pimples.  Free radicals come from the environment (i.e. air pollution, u.v rays).

The best and main prevention for a pimple breakout is keeping your skin clean through cleansing twice a day, exfoliating twice a week, applying a mask once a week and using a quality oil free moisturiser.

While on holidays recently I ran out of cleanser about 3 days before coming home. Oh well that's OK I'll use the body lotion provided at our 5 star hotel, it's good quality. What a mistake.

You'd think a very mature skin like mine could take anything but by the first night the lumps had started coming up on my forehead. The next morning a few developing pimples were near my nose. It took a week after our return to restore my face to a clear status again.

For most ladies this probably won't happen but if you suffer from Rosacea like me, it doesn't take much to start a breakout.

Rosacea skins tend to have more layers of dead skin cells so must be routinely cleansed with a suitable face cleanser. Pores just have to be kept clear.

The hotel body lotion was too drying, full of chemicals and immediately blocked the pores. Bingo inflammation began.

The best cleansing solution for Rosacea and acne prone skins is a lactic acid and glycolic acid face wash. This combination is gentle but effective in removing dead skin cells thus working as a preventative of lumps, bumps, pimples and cyst type eruptions.

When we developed Daily Face Wash last year it was very exciting for myself and the hundreds of girls who started using it straight away. Feedback has been excellent and sales tell the story.

Going on holidays - take plenty of your own skin care. You should come back glowing not with zits!
