MSM For Arthritis

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis is often referred to as a single disease or one common problem, but in fact it is a term used for over 100 medical conditions that affect our musculoskeletal system. Arthritis occurs specifically in our joints where two or more bones meet.

Problems associated with arthritis include pain, stiffness, inflammation and damage to joint cartilage (the tissue that covers the ends of bones, enabling them to move against each another) and surrounding structures. These symptoms affect our joints and can create joint weakness and deformities that interfere with daily tasks including driving, walking, cleaning and cooking.

What Causes Arthritis?

Determining the cause of Arthritis can be very difficult there are a number of factors that often contribute to the onset of Arthritis:
Age –As we grow old our cartilage becomes more brittle reduced capacity to repair itself so we are more likely to develop arthritis as we age.
Weight –Joint damage is partly dependent on the amount the joint has to support, excess body weight can lead to arthritis, this is noticeable in the hips and knees that can wear quickly in overweight people.
Injury –Previous joint damage can cause irregularities in the normal smooth joint surface resulting in the formation of arthritis.
Work History –Some people in certain occupations seem to have a higher risk of developing arthritis. These are primarily high demand jobs such as assembly line workers and heavy construction.
Sports –Sports participation can lead to joint injury and then subsequent arthritis.

Three Most Common Types Of Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis – is a disease in which inflammation affects the joints and other organs of the body, the inflammation causes pain, heat and swelling to the affected areas. Hands, feet and knees are commonly affected and stiffness in the joints is common. Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes pain and inflammation of the joints and results in the restricted movement.
Osteoarthritis – is a breakdown of the cartilage that covers the end of the bones, this cartilage is there to help the joint move smoothly and cushions the ends of the bones. The ends of the bones then become unprotected and the joint loses it’s ability to move smoothly. The most common symptoms are pain and stiffness in the joints, which is normally worse after resting or not moving the joint for a while.
Gout – is the formation of small crystals in and around the joint which cause inflammation, pain and swelling. The crystals are made of uric acid which is one of the body’s normal waste products. The body would normally rid itself of excess uric acid through urine, but this elimination does not happen fast enough in people who have gout. Gout is hereditary and some lifestyle factors which may increase your risk of gout include drinking alcohol, dehydration, overweight, and certain foods.

How MSM Relieves Arthritis

According to the foremost expert on MSM, Stanley W. Jacob, M.D., the substance, when taken as a supplement, exerts potent anti-inflammatory activity, it stops pain impulses and improves blood supply. MSM strengthens the collagen and the other connective tissue in the joints which assists in alleviating the pain associated with Arthritis. MSM also allows the body to heal faster by making the tissues even stronger.

Our body's natural response to an injury is to become swollen and inflamed, the anti-inflammatory aspects of MSM helps diminish this pain and makes the joints feel less inflamed.

Benefits of MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)

Wednesday, June 11, 2014
What is MSM?
Methyl Sulfonyl Methane is a natural organic form of sulphur, an essential element we need every day for good health and relief from many of today’s health problems. Organic sulphur is the third largest nutrient found in the human body, and is also an ingredient found in meat, dairy products and vegetables.

Benefits Of MSM
Joint & Muscle Care
According to the foremost expert on MSM, Stanley W. Jacob, M.D., the substance, when taken as a supplement, exerts potent anti-inflammatory activity, stops pain impulses and muscle spasm, and improves blood supply. MSM strengthens the collagen and the other connective tissue in the joints, it also allows the body to heal faster by making the tissues even stronger.

It is an essential nutrient for your joint, bone and muscle health and helps conditions like arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Improves Skin, Hair & Nail Health
MSM is necessary for collagen production, as we grow older we do not produce as much collagen which in turn results in wrinkles, saggy skin, dry and cracked skin. The sulphur provided by MSM produces large quantities of collagen and keratin, which is essential for healthy skin, hair and nails.

MSM is known as the ‘Beauty Mineral’ for skin, hair and nails, sagging skin and wrinkles, as well as dry, cracked skin are all developed through a loss of collagen. MSM works together with Vitamin C to build new, healthy tissues. MSM can normalize collagen formation and radically improve skin health and dramatically reduce the signs of ageing.

Detoxification
One of MSM’s most significant benefits is that it enhances the permeability of your cell membranes, this allows increased absorption of nutrients and speedier expulsion of excess fluids and toxins. Therefore detoxifying your cells of toxic waste products and enabling your body to better utilise the nutrients you are consuming. It has been widely reported that many health practitioners working with MSM state that it is the most powerful detoxifying supplement they have ever worked with.

Increased Energy Levels
As a result of the increased permeability of the cells, your body requires less energy to deal with the accumulation of toxins. This results in more energy being redirected towards activity and necessary healing. Digestion is the biggest energy requirement of the body – we spend 70-80% of our energy is spent on digestion , MSM increases the absorption of nutrients therefore our energy expenditure on digestion is vastly reduced.

How MSM Will Help Your Sports Injuries

Friday, March 14, 2014

So What Is MSM?

MSM or its full name, Methyl Sulfonyl Methane is a crystalline supplement, a source of Organic Sulphur.  MSM is a pain relief and general wellness supplement which is easily absorbed by the body.  MSM is neither a drug nor a medicine, but a naturally occurring nutrient that provides the body with essential sulfur and methyl groups that are used in the healing and repair processes.

How Does It Help Sports Injuries?

According to the foremost expert on MSM, Stanley W. Jacob, M.D., the substance, when taken as a supplement, exerts potent anti-inflammatory activity, stops pain impulses and muscle spasm, and improves blood supply. MSM strengthens the collagen and the other connective tissue in the joints, it also allows the body to heal faster by making the tissues even stronger.

The body's natural response to an injury is to become swollen and inflamed, the anti-inflammatory aspects of MSM helps diminish this pain and makes the joints feel less inflamed.

MSM has many benefits for sporting injuries:

-Inhibits pain impulses along nerve fibers and thus has an analgesic effect.
-Reduces inflammation and muscle spasm, both of which contribute to lessened pain and soreness.
-Increases blood supply.
-Softens scar tissue.

How Do I Take It?
MSM looks like sugar and is water soluble so can be taken dissolved in water or fruit juice.  Up to 80g daily, by mouth, under the care of a GP. From research by Dr Jacob and others however, it appears that 2g to 8g daily is sufficient in normal situations (Such as an immune system booster) reduce or increase as required–taken with vitamin C can improve the effect. The world’s top MSM authority Dr. Jacob has taken 30grams MSM daily for the past 20yrs - no side effects, colds or flu !!

Avoid MSM tablets, capsules and pills as the majority contain inexpensive and undesirable bulk fillers

Actual Results From Real People!

Hi I recently purchased your MSM Sulfur and I am amazed at the results I'm getting. This is truly a miracle product. I have suffered from back pain for 10 years and after two weeks on MSM I began feeling like I did when I was 15 years old. No pain, lots of energy and very alert.

In the mornings I'm usually at my worst and with strong back pain and fatigue that compounds from the prior days back pain, I drag myself out of bed and spend the next three hours trying to warm up and wake up. The dull ache stays with me all day.

Now I'm getting up feeling no back pain, I spring out of bed, I'm alert, no more fatigue or grumpy behaviour for the first three hours of the day, I can actually function from the beginning to the end of my day. I feel great.

It's been 6 weeks now and I still can't believe how much it has relieved my back pain not to mention the other benefits. Thank you for such a great product.
Jamie R, Perth WA

Hi, I started taking MSM powder a few months ago to try and help with joint pains I've had since I was in my teens (a skiing accident) and twenties (a chiropractic manipulation gone wrong). I'm in my thirties now and pain free for the first time in over fifteen years. I'm thrilled with the difference MSM has made for me. – I've no joint pain and it's the middle of winter! (I also take fish oils and have done so for years but they have only ever provided intermittent relief). Thank you so much.

Rosacea Tips

 Rosacea Tips

Rosacea (pronounced roz-a-sha) is a skin condition without a cure but able to be controlled and improved dramatically.

The most noticeable feature of Rosacea is a red face particularly in the t-zone.  Broken capillairies known also as surface veins or spider veins are common to sufferers.  Another curse can be pimples, cysts or acne.  This acne is different to the type common in young people.

For dramatic improvement in redness, veins and blemishes follow these tips:

  • IPPL (Intense pulse Laser Light) is an excellent way to remove redness and veins when performed by a competent practioner (ask Doctor about Medicare Rebate)

  • Exfoliate very regularly either with creams containing particles or micro-dermabrasion or hydro-dermabrasion. (rosacea causes extra thick layers of dead cells which lead to blockages and pimples)

  • Use skin products formulated for Rosacea (these must contain ingredients to reduce inflammation, calm, strengthen the skin barrier, heal skin barrier, keep pores clear)

  • Take supplements to help alleviate the symptoms of Rosacea – Vitamin A, MSM Powder, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin C Powder)

  • Protect your face from the sun using either mineral makeup for females or sunscreen if tolerated

Rosacea can have a damaging effect on self-esteem and confidence in men and women.  For women it is easy to cover the face.  Mineral makeup is the best development for this.  A small amount of mineral powder which takes a minute to apply is pure magic.

I have had Rosacea for nearly 20 years and suffered the embarrassment of redness and blemishes for at least 15 years.  A wonderful new MiSMo client at the time, a doctor, changed my life 5 years ago.

About 6 sessions, IPLL removed redness and surface veins from my face, which in turn restored my confidence.

Continual research and trialling different ingredients have led to the closest description of a cure that can be achieved.

What helps back pain?

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

Rather than taking pain killers and paracetamol for everything, try alleviating back pain with natural minerals such as magnesium chloride and organic sulphur or MSM.  We have had overwhelming feedback from our customers of how the MiSMo Magnesium Gel Forte and MSM has reduced or completely gotten rid of their pain from ailments such as arthritis, to sprains, back pain and joint pain.

Magnesium is a natural muscle relaxant.  Magnesium Chloride is easily absorbed into the skin and although it can be taken orally, applying it topically means you avoid possibly upsetting your digestive system.

The Magnesium Gel Forte is fortified with MSM, a natural anti-inflammatory and Organic Aloe Vera which is also moisturising for the skin.  The result is a product which combines the power of Magnesium and MSM, but is not sticky like most Magnesium gels and oils can be.

It is recommended to apply the Magnesium Gel Forte to the area causing pain twice a day.  Additionally you could apply the gel to under the arch of your feet where you optimally absorb the Magnesium.  This will increase the dosage and your body can use what it needs to alleviate the pain.

The most effective form of treatment for pain is topically (applied to the skin) plus internally, through drinking MSM mixed with either water or juice daily.  The recommended dosage is 1 teaspoon per day, taken in the morning.  Organic Sulphur is an anti-inflammatory and as most sources of pain are due to inflammation, reducing inflammation will also reduce your levels of pain.

MSM has many benefits other than pain relief, as it can also improve the condition of your hair, skin and nails as well as give you more energy and a detox.

Although we can get sulphur from our diet from eggs, onions, broccoli and kale for example, we are unlikely to absorb enough to sustain what our body needs.  As it is not produced within our body, it is important to take it as a supplement.

If you are suffering from back pain, or other pain ailments, it is worth your while getting off the pain killers and giving your body what it needs to improve your health naturally.

MSM Pain Relief for Pets

Wednesday, November 06, 2013

For many people, their pets become part of the family and it’s heartbreaking when they are in pain.  One of the latest food supplements proven to extend the quality of life for ageing and pain inflicted pets, is MSM.

MSM (also known as Organic Sulphur) is a safe and effective supplement to give to your pets.  It has the same toxicity as water!

How does MSM work?

MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory.  MSM supports the sulphur bonds between proteins such as keratin within hair, skin and nails, connective tissue and cartilage within joints.  A deficiency in sulphur supplied to these protein bonds can lead to stiff joints and joint pain.

It is difficult and sometimes toxic to include enough sulphur enriched foods into animal’s diets to ensure they are getting what they need.  Foods which contain sulphur include eggs, spinach, broccoli and onion – although onion should never be given to dogs.

Although people tend to drink MSM with a glass of water or mixed with juice, animals are unlikely to drink their entire bowl of water within a day.  There are benefits to adding a pinch to their water bowl, but their daily dosage is best mixed in their food.  In some studies, animals that were given MSM in their water supplies had lower death rates and liver damage as well as longer life expectancy than control groups.  Depending on how fussy your pets are, you may be able to disguise the flavour by adding it to their wet food (i.e. tinned dog food) or by mixing it into a sauce/gravy over dried food.  It does have a bitter taste (as you will know if you take it yourself).

Organic Sulphur relieves inflammation and enhances circulation.  MSM has been well documented in alleviating pain in animals caused by arthritis.  Some vets prescribe Asprin for arthritis, but this could result in gastrointestinal problems such as haemorrhaging or ulcers.  A single dose of Asprin for a cat can be fatal.  Dr. Reigel; a vet and author, reported giving a cat which was dragging its back legs and moving very slowly, MSM.  Given MSM daily, the same cat was reported to be sprinting around as if it were a one year old again.  Our own customers have reported great results for themselves and in their pets.

In the US, MSM has been used largely with working, racetrack and show ring horses.  Horses given MSM showed a delayed onset of tumours, equivalent to 10 years in humans as well as improved condition in those that suffered from sore backs.  Symptoms of a sore back in horses includes discomfort, bruising, hair loss or open sores in the saddle area.

Dosage depends on the animal you have and it’s weight.

Horses:  450kg horse – one gram of MSM per 45kg of body weight twice a day or as directed by your vet.

Dogs:  Feed 500mg (1/2 gram) of MSM once a day per 12kg of body weight.  For dogs over 40kg, feed 1 teaspoon (5 grams) of MSM daily.

Other conditions where MSM can help your pets include:

-          Acral lick Granulomas

-          Acne (yes dogs can get acne)

-          Cataracts – although not a cure, MSM can help tremendously with blood circulation for early stages

-          Diabetes

-          Diabetes Insipidus Disorder

-          Epilepsy and Seizures

-          Feline Leukaemia

-          Giardia

-          Hip Dysplasia

-          Hot spots – skin infections which have an oozing discharge

-          Lupus – immune disorder

-          Itching

-          Improve coat shine and skin conditions

Once they are part of the family, there is nothing we wouldn’t do for our pets!  Luckily MSM is one supplement which can significantly improve the quality of life for those that are suffering, so they can enjoy a longer, fuller (and no doubt pampered) life.

What is MSM?

Monday, October 28, 2013

MSM or its full name, Methyl Sulfonyl Methane is a powder, supplement source of Organic Sulphur.  MSM is a pain relief and general wellness supplement which is easily absorbed by the body.  MSM is neither a drug nor a medicine.

Foods such as fruit and vegetables do have sulphur present in them, especially eggs, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, beef, chicken, fish, onions, garlic, leeks, shallots and chives.  As a lot of people’s diets now contain a lot of processed foods and the quality of produce consumed is decreasing many people are becoming deficient in supplying their body the sulphur it requires.

Sulphur is the 4th most abundant mineral in our body.  Almost half of the sulphur found in your body is in your muscles, skin and bone.  Sulphur bonds are required to maintain proteins structure and flexibility such as keratin in hair and nails.  Sulphur bonds are also within connective tissue and cartilage.  As we age the presence of sulphur supplies in our cells declines.  This in turn reduces the flexibility in muscles and joints leading to stiffness and painful joints.  Within skin, the weakened sulphur bonds can leading to sagging and wrinkles.

Other functions of sulphur include aiding the energy centres within your cells, vitamin B thiamine (B1) conversion, which is used in converting carbohydrates to energy, aiding the functioning of insulin in the body and detoxification.

It is important to look for an MSM Powder which is pure and contains no fillers or anti caking agents.  At a minimum, it should be ‘food grade’, however pharmaceutical grade is the best you can get.

There are two forms of MSM crystals/powder.  Regular MSM is synthesised under a ‘spun’ process.  Distilled MSM is considered the premium and most pure form, which is produced under a distillation process whereby the vapour is collected.

There is a lot of information on the internet about MSM from America being superior to MSM sourced from China.  This is not true.  Most of the world’s supply of MSM comes from China.  In fact a large portion of MSM that is labelled as “Made is USA” is produced in China or India and simply repackaged in the US.   There are differing qualities of MSM within China however, so the main thing to ask is if it is pure MSM and if it has been supplied with a Certificate of Analysis to prove there are no additives.

 MSM CREAMS

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is an Organic Sulphur which is a small molecule that easily penetrates the skin layers.  Whilst MSM is predominantly known as powder/crystals which are consumed orally, there has been substantial research and evidence to show that MSM Creams produce fantastic anti-ageing results and healthier, more radiant looking skin.

MSM makes skin cells more permeable for vitamins and nutrients to be absorbed into the cells and for toxins to leave the cells.  This process produces healthier skin cells, which continue to replicate other healthy cells, improving the cellular structure and visible condition of the skin.

MSM is also beneficial in creating strong collagen bonds and preventing cross linking of collagen bonds, which appear as scaring.  Applying MSM creams topically can help fade existing scarring through the formation of healthier cells, which also smooths and softens the skin.  Stronger collagen bonds smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, providing great anti-ageing results.

As MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory, MSM Cream applied topically calm skin conditions such as acne, rosacea and eczema.  As the redness associated with these ailments is due to inflammation of the skin, MSM Creams are able to aid the skin tone in appearing more even and less angry, as well as reducing pain caused by inflammation.

The MiSMo New Age Moisturiser is just one of the MiSMo MSM Creams available.  Combining 11% MSM, with a high percentage of Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin A, Vitamin B3 and Olive Squalane has produced a moisturiser which suits a range of skin types and conditions.  This MSM Cream is well suited to normal to oily skin and skin conditions such as Rosacea, Eczema, Psoriasis and blemish prone skin.

In the New Age Moisturiser, the MSM, Hyaluronic Ace and Vitamin B3 produce anti-ageing affects by plumping up the skin and smoothing fine lines as well as evening skin tone.  Vitamin A helps to keep the pores clear and strengthens the skin barrier while Olive Squalane mimics natural skin oils, providing great nutrition for the skin.

Look for an MSM Cream that contains at least 10% MSM for best results.  As well as MSM concentration being important, the synergy between included ingredients is vital for the effective MSM Creams to be formulated.  MiSMo have researched and clinically tested their products to ensure their MSM Creams are effective whether it be to calm the skin as an anti-inflammatory, aid in the healing of scarring or provide anti-ageing properties.  MiSMo’s MSM Cream range is compiled of the New Age Moisturiser, Anti-Wrinkle Cream, Nourishing Cream (hydrating moisturiser), Boost (oil free moisturiser), Cell Soother, Blemish Gel, PHP Mask and Magnesium Gel Forte.

MSM Benefits - Not just for pain relief

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Whilst Irene the director and owner of MiSMo Body Care has over 12 years knowledge and experience with MSM (Organic Sulphur), I myself am a newbie to MSM.

I am a very active person, doing gym 6 days a week with lots of walks and runs in between, so I mainly suffer from muscle soreness if anything.  I cannot complain of any ailments such as arthritis or pain which would usually be the cause to look for MSM, but have started taking it for the general health benefits.

Results?  DEFINITELY!  After just two weeks of taking my 1 teaspoon daily I find I have so much more energy!  With the amount of activity I do, I would usually find myself dragging my feet in the morning to do my 5am walks and on Friday night blobbing on the couch with a DVD feeling exhausted.  However I now feel rested and it’s easy to get up in the mornings with energy to spare after work.  I have also noticed an increase in the strength of my nails, which have ALWAYS been brittle and peeling and my recovery time from muscle soreness has improved too.

So my attitude towards MSM has changed from looking at it as a treatment for pain relief and illnesses, to regarding it as a general health supplement, like taking a multi vitamin every day.

I will be keeping a close eye on my skin and hair condition in the next few months, as MSM should see improvement in these too.

As an MSM convert, I am happy to endorse MiSMo MSM (as I know it’s pharmaceutical grade with no fillers) and will be spreading the news to my friends.

All the Best,

Cold Sores and MSM

MSM, COLD SORES AND THE LIP TATTOO

Have you ever had a cold sore? If it's yes you'll be familiar with the first signs; you run your tongue over your lip and there's a little bump. Did the tingling come first or after you felt the bump.

The memory of my first cold sore is vivid. I wasn't sure what the bump was but within hours the bump became a big, swollen sore lump. The pain and the cold sore grew and became excessive as the days went by. It was just cruel, for over 2 weeks.

All that was available in the pharmacy was a generic "cold sore cream" that was useless.

Cold sores came and went as the years went by. A pattern was clear. Whenever my lips were dry, sun exposed, windburned or stress was heavy, up came the dreaded cold sore. They would last up to 2 weeks, with a great deal of pain and discomfort.

Years down the track came MiSMo and Cell Soother. Zovirax was also around by then and always on hand.

One day the tingling started and I thought I'd give Cell Soother a go instead of Zovirax. I applied Cell Soother often, as you do Zovirax. A lovely surprise followed:

  • No Swelling
  • No Pain
  • No real development of the cold sore
  • Scab was off in 3 -4 days instead of a week or two
Needless to say I have not used anything except Cell Soother since that day about 4 years ago for Cold Sores and also a mild shingles outbreak.

Why would Cell Soother work. It contains the maximum amount of MSM you can physically use in a gel. 15% MSM (methylsulfonyl methane) or Organic Sulfur and Organic Aloe Vera.

Both ingredients are:

  • anti-inflammatories hence reduction or no swelling
  • accelerate healing at a cellular level
  • have anti-viral properties
A week and a bit ago I succumbed to vanity and had a cosmetic tattoo on the outline of my lips - age has caught up and definition was minimal. It is common for cold sores to erupt on the lips after cosmetic tattoo if you are susceptible.

All was well for 3 days as I flashed the new well defined lip shape. On Monday the bumps came - 8 of them all across my top lip. The bottom lip was spared for some unknown reason.

Tuesday

Thursday

Monday

I had been applying Cell Soother several times a day since the tattoo was done. Paw Paw ointment was applied over Cell Soother. The usual recommended product is Bepanthen from the pharmacy.

The exciting part has been that in spite of such a large number of Cold Sores there has been no pain and minimal swelling.  I looked a bit like Daffy Duck on Wednesday but no pain.

The pretty shape was not being flashed for a few days with all those scabs but now Friday of the cold sores there are only 2 scabs left and thanks to Cell Soother we'll be ready for public scrutiny.  By Monday the last of the cold sores were gone and my lips clear again. To have 8 coldsores come and go in 7 days is amazing.

Cosmetic Tattoos are done twice usually. After the first 5 or so days the tattooed area exfoliates and the colour reduces by about half. This is because a lot of colour is on the surface of the skin. The skin is broken when a tattoo is applied so it scabs and peels away. My description not the salons!

The skin seems tougher the second time around and not as much colour is lost.

That's my story for the week. I LOVE Cell Soother. It saves the day over and over.

It will be interesting to see how the second session goes on my lips in a few weeks time.
