 What is Magnesium Chloride?

Magnesium Chloride consists of magnesium bound to chloride, produced through the evaporation of saline sea water. After removal of the sodium chloride, the bittern (also known as 'Nigari') remains. This bittern consists mainly of magnesium chloride which contains the ions of both magnesium and chloride, both are required to stimulate digestive enzymes and produce hydrochloric acid in the stomach to absorb the nutrients we eat. Without normal amounts of hydrochloric acid present in the stomach, foods are not digested properly and minerals such as magnesium are not absorbed.

How Do I Take It?


There are two ways to get magnesium into the body, orally (by mouth) and transdermally (through the skin).

Transdermal Absorption Of Magnesium


Magnesium chloride powder and sea salt baths are excellent ways of absorbing magnesium chloride through the skin. Another way is by massaging magnesium chloride oil directly onto the skin. A small amount may be massaged or rubbed into any area of the body. For example, it may be used on the back of the neck and shoulders to treat stress, the legs and feet to work with the lymph system or the abdomen to work with the digestive system.
Magnesium chloride has been found to be rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream when applied to the body. This method is a valuable way of absorbing magnesium, particularly for those whose digestive system is compromised by a poor diet or other diagnosed digestive problems and cannot absorb minerals such as magnesium when taken orally.
You may apply a compress using magnesium oil - soak a thin cotton cloth in magnesium oil, wring out and apply to any area of the body (cover with a 'cling wrap' to avoid getting on your clothes). A hot pack helps with absorption.

Oral Consumption of Magnesium


Magnesium tablets can be purchased an taken orally or magnesium chloride powder can be mixed with water and taken orally. The daily recommended amount is approximately 400mg for men 320mg women.
In 1 gram magnesium chloride = 120 milligrams (mgs) elemental magnesium
To dilute Mag chloride for oral use: 1 part magnesium chloride powder to 3 parts pure water.
Dosage: Take 5mls of liquid 3 times a day. This provides approximately 600mgs elemental magnesium. You can add this to a glass of water so it doesn't taste so bad.
