AN EGG A DAY FOR VITAMIN D

By Irene McDonald, MiSMo Body Care Sunday, March 06, 2011
It was reported in the Body and Soul Magazine that The US Department of Agriculture has re-examined the nutritional value of eggs and found they have less cholesterol than previously thought.
One large egg averages 185mg of cholesterol.

Eggs are also one of the few foods that are a natural source of vitamin D, providing about 41IU of vitamin D per large egg.

Vitamin D is required for calcium absorption, strong bones and the prevention of osteoporosis. It also plays an important role in immune function and reducing inflammation in the body.

According to the USDA, eating one egg a day won't result in higher cholesterol.

Eggs are also high in protein. If you are watching your weight, and aren't we all, go for a poached egg on toast with avocado instead of butter on wholemeal or grain bread. A few drops of tabasco sauce adds even more flavour.  This offers a breakfast  full of nutrients and will keep away the munchies during the morning.

Eggs offer so many recipe options and are great value.
