ACNE, PIMPLES AND SOME EXPLANATIONS

Acne, pimples and blackheads are the scourge of millions throughout the world. Gender, race and often age don’t come into the equation. Acne and pimples can be devastating to self esteem at any age.

Various types of acne include cystic acne, pimples, cyst type lumps and blackheads. Problems can range from an occasional nuisance to very serious skin issues.

WHAT IS ACNE:

In broad terms Acne and pimples occur when a pore is blocked and bacteria invades the area. Sebaceous glands excrete excessive sebum (oil) which then mixes with dead skin cells. This mix blocks pores and a pimple or blind pimple develops. When bacteria enters the scene, maybe from a finger, pus forms.

WHAT AGE:

The teenage and young 20’s is the most common age for acne to occur. At that stage testosterone levels are very high and this contributes to the production of excessive sebum and formation of pimples and acne.

Adult acne can appear even in the 40’s and 50’s although at this age it is more likely to be Rosacea.

CONTRIBUTING FACTORS:

  • Dead skin cells building up in pores
  • Excessive or thick sebum production
  • Hormones
  • Stress
  • Diet
  • Skin care products including makeup
  • Sunscreen
  • Using cleansers or soap that have a high pH (Above 7)

PLEASE DON’T:

Squeeze a pimple that is not ready to erupt. You will rupture delicate cells around the blemish and end up with extra blemishes as inflammation and/or bacteria spreads. Leave it alone, apply a Blemish Gel and wait.

Spots will heal much faster, reducing the risk of scars. You can guarantee a squeeze will double the size of the blemish by the next day. Train  yourself by visualising pimples popping up all around the existing blemish or a huge swelling  - it works.

Fingernails near pimples or acne don’t work. Always wash your hands before touching your face, even to cleanse.

HELP:  BLEMISH GEL has been specially formulated to not only help heal pimples, blackheads and blind pimples fast but also the help in the preventative scene.

Go for prevention: Many girls get pimples as hormones change in the monthly cycle. Apply Blemish Gel around this time so the gel is there to zap zits before they develop too much.

Blemish Gel is a natural acne treatment and contains specialised active ingredients designed to kill bacteria associated with pimples, blackheads and acne.  Inflammation is always associated with blemishes so MSM, Aloe Vera and Vitamins A, B3, B5 and Hyaluronic Acid look after this problem. Blemish Gel is fragrance and oil free.

Many acne treatments are harsh and dry skin in a significant way. This is not necessary for a pimple treatment to work. Blemish Gel will never dry your skin - quite the opposite. It is full of the best hydrating ingredients.

NEW HELP NOW AVAILABLE:

DAILY FACE WASH with Lactic/Glycolic acids: The cleanser used on blemish prone skin is most important. The aim is to remove dead skin cells every day to prevent pores blocking and developing into pimples and other blemishes. Lactic and glycolic acids loosen the glue that holds dead cells on skin. We have combined the acids to provide the other important aspect - gentle.

Very often skin is red and irritated when breakouts occur so gentle is of great importance. Blemish Gel will not dry out your skin and Daily Face Wash will not irritate sensitive skin.

Daily Face Wash is fragrance, soap and oil free.

Using soap or cleansers with a pH above 7 will encourage acne bacteria growth. Most soaps are way above this 6. On a pH scale 7 is neutral, 0 very acidic and 14 super alkaline. Skin is around 5.5 so skin care that is around this pH is ideal. All MiSMo products are around this number.

 SKIN CARE ROUTINE:

  1. Daily Face Wash twice a day
  2. Exfoliator 2 – 3 times a week (use caution when irritated) Use your 4 fingers to apply exfoliator not the finger tips.
  3. Blemish Gel morning and night
  4. Moisturise morning and night – BOOST  for oily skin or New Age Moisturiser for combination skin.

If you are a teenager who does not use or need moisturiser use only Blemish Gel. Blemish Gel will not dry out your skin.

HORMONES:

Hormones can play a big part in excessive oil production. Pimples around the chin area indicate hormones are responsible. Some medication can also cause acne. The medical condition polycystic ovaries also causes acne in women.

STRESS:

Studies have proven stress is a huge factor on skin health. The more you worry about your skin the worse it becomes due to the production of excess oil. Important events so often see a big pimple emerge on the eve of the big day.  Here is an explanation about how stress makes acne worse.

SUNSCREEN:

Sunscreen is a vital part of protecting your skin from sun damage but many irritate the skin and cause breakouts. Look for products that contain zinc or titanium as they are a physical barrier and less likely to clog pores. Apply sunscreen after skin care. An easy way to avoid sunscreen on a daily basis is to use Mineral Makeup. UV is provided and you'll look gorgeous as pimples are disguised.

Remember the bumps can't be hidden but  the redness can easily be disguised.

TIPS:

Change pillowcases every 2 days. Sleep on one side and turn for the next night then change the slip.

Mobile phones: Do the pimples come up where you hold the phone. If so keep phone clean and swap sides.

Hair products: Don't use gels and other hair products on your fringe. Often they clog pores on the forehead.

SUPPLEMENTS:

  • Vitamin A or betacarotene or Cod Liver oil fortified with Vitamins A and D (check with health professionals as Vitamin A can cause defects on unborn babies)
  • Zinc
  • MSM
  • Essential Fatty Acids or Omegas
  • Vitamin C

These can all help a smoother, healthier complexion and help strengthen the immune system.

EXFOLIATION:

Regular exfoliation is important in control of congested skin, pimples and acne. A buildup of dead skin cells mixed with sebum is a recipe for pimples.

ACNE SCARS:

Acne Scars can be reduced at home. For a global approach my recommendation would be:

How MiSMo products can reduce scars:

MSM directly affects scar tissue. It can reduce scarring by lessening cross linking of tissue during the healing process. MSM is also an anti inflammatory and as such reduces swelling. New skin cells will be healthier with the application of MSM.

Hyaluronic Acid has a major effect on healing of wounds and pimples. Vitamin B3 (Nicotinamide) strengthens the skin tissue

Vitamins A, C and E stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin in the skin. By doing so healthy, clear skin tissue is produced replacing damaged or scarred tissue.

DermaNew Microdermabrasion tool removes dead skin cells exposing fresh new skin and encouraging the faster growth of repaired skin cells.

Acne scars can also be treated professionally by Microdermabrasion or laser.

BLACKHEADS:

The colour of a blackhead is caused by air not dirt. Sebum and dead skin cells form a plug in a follicle and over time it becomes black. Blackheads do have to be removed. No bacteria is involved in blackheads.

Ideally go to a beauty therapist who will carefully remove blackheads for you. If blackheads are left pores stretch thereby creating an environment for recurring blackheads. Ask if the therapist performs extractions as not all salons do.

If you attempt to do this yourself always make sure the skin is clean, warmed and softened. Don't use finger tips as nails may cause extra damage. Position 2 cotton buds either side of the blackhead and gently wiggle them around the blackhead, either side, top and bottom.

By far the best way is to see a professional.

WATER:

Lots of filtered water will help remove toxins from your body.

Our liver also processes the fats and oils in our diet. The types of fats we eat also influence our skin health. To put it simply, a diet rich in saturated fats creates sebum that is thick, viscous, easily blocking the pores and even irritating the skin. In contrast, essential fatty acids are an excellent skin food, encouraging the skin to heal, soothing it and it has even been suggested that they can help dissolve blockages in the pores.

Many other nutrients play an important role when treating an acneic skin. Zinc, Vitamin C and Vitamin D encourage the skin to heal quickly, reducing the possibility of scarring. Acne can also be a sign of deficiency of potassium, Vitamin B6 or Zinc so it is important to eat foods rich in these elements to eliminate this as a possible cause.

All of these lovely nutrients are useless if our bodies are incapable of digesting them. If you suffer from flatulence or indigestion, this can mean an enzyme supplement is also necessary.

CONSTIPATION:

It is essential that you have good bowel habits. A clean colon will reflect healthy skin. Constipation will allow toxins to build in the body. As skin is the largest organ in the body an unhealthy body will show on your skin.

Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit plus servings of meat, fish and chicken. Water and green tea are good for your whole body. Avoid bottled juices, soft drink, alcohol (especially the mixes) and coffee.

Regardless of what you may see about diet not being the cause of acne it is well recorded fats and sugar contribute in a big way to poor skin. Of course excess weight will result from a fast food diet as well. MSM powder can help constipation as well as problem skin so give it a try.

MEDICATION:

People suffering from severe cases of acne will need to seek medical help and be guided by their health professional.
